ELITE ENVIRONMENTAL LAW DEPARTMENT ADDS SENIOR ATTORNEY

PHOENIX (Jan. 7, 2010) - Gallagher & Kennedy, P.A., a full service business law firm based in Phoenix, announced today the addition of James G. Derouin to the firm’s Environmental and Natural Resources Department. Mr. Derouin joined the elite group of 18 lawyers as of counsel on January 4. Gallagher & Kennedy will now have three “Band One, Leading Individuals,” as noted by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, practicing together. Mr. Derouin, David P. Kimball, III and J. Stanton Curry constitute the entire “Band One” group of environmental attorneys in Arizona according to Chambers USA.

Over his more than 40 year career, Mr. Derouin has represented private and public clients in numerous states and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regions on environmental and natural resource issues. His practice covers matters ranging from environmental liability and groundwater contamination to mining and complex project permitting. Mr. Derouin has served as a member of the Superfund Subcommittee of the EPA’s National Advisory Council for Environmental Policy and Technology and as a member of the Board of Scientific Counselors for the Centers for Disease Control. He was also the primary negotiator of the landmark Arizona Environmental Quality Act.

As a respected authority on environmental law, Mr. Derouin has been a featured speaker at more than 60 presentations nationwide, including one at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Derouin has received numerous honors. He is listed in Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, was selected as one of the “Top 50 Attorneys” in Arizona by SouthwestSuper Lawyers, and he has earned an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Derouin received his J.D. in 1968 from the University of Wisconsin.
